The 3970E perpetual chronograph manual wind watch, features a 36 mm case. This is a platinum example with black diamond dial, platinum tang buckle and black crocodile strap. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds, day, date, month, moon phase, leap year indicator, 24 hour indicator and chronograph. includes a sapphire crystal, screw down winding crown, round chronograph push buttons, and a screw down sapphire crystal case back.
The 3970 was created following the success of the exceptional Ref. 2499. The design of the case of Ref. 3970, with its down-turned, fluted lugs, is clearly influenced by the form of the Ref. 2499. One main difference between the two models is the addition of the leap year indicator to the 3 o'clock subsidiary dial and 24-hour indicator to the 9 o'clock subsidiary dial. The Ref. 3970 is now considered a classic by collectors, following in the footsteps of its predecessors Ref. 1518, Ref. 2499. One can distinguish three series in the production of Ref. 3970. A series is defined by variations in case designs or features. Following on from the iconic reference 2499, the 3970 was produced from 1986 to 2004.
