The Patek Philippe Ref. 5236P-001 is a brand-new perpetual calendar with an original in-line display to its rich range of calendar watches. The day, date and month appear in a large single aperture at 12 o'clock. So as to combine originality, legibility and reliability, the watch design engineers have developed the new self-winding movement 31-260 PS QL with an additional in-line display module, for which three patent applications have been filed. This highly sophisticated new caliber is housed in an elegant platinum case framing a vertical satin-finished blue dial with a black-gradient rim. The dial is a masterpiece of elegance.
The Patek Philippe Ref. 5236P-001 case is inspired by vintage timepieces - ref. 3448 and 3450, specifically - and is based on the 40mm case of Regulator reference 5235, in this case upgraded to 41mm. The inspiration from this novel movement comes from a vintage timepiece, pocket reference 725/4 which features a similar indication (albeit in "American" style - month, date, day - rather than the present European style "day, date month"). The similarity between the two watches is however purely aesthetic, as the calendar module of ref. 5236 is completely new, a masterpiece of watchmaking featuring 118 additional parts compared the a "standard" perpetual calendar, and a number of technical solutions devised exclusively for this complication.
