This Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref# 3700/1J is a very early example produced in 1978, which was the third year of production. The watch is accompanied with an Extract from the Archives, Patek Philippe service papers, hang tag and box. This example is in excellent condition with extremely crisp hallmarks.
The 3700/1J "Jumbo" Nautilus automatic watch, features a 42 mm case. This is a yellow gold example with black dial and yellow gold Patek Philippe and Gay Freres fully linked with the more sought after 'wider' bracelet . Functions include hours, minutes and date.
The greatest sporting model produced by Patek Philippe, the Nautilus has become one of the company's most iconic wristwatches. The 3700 is known as the 'Jumbo' model and is the largest of the Nautilus series. Reference 3700 was launched in 1976 and was designed to be water-resistant to 120 metres; its final official listing was in the 1986. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the model, Patek Philippe launched a new Nautilus range in October of 2006.The first 5 years of production, until 1980, the bracelet of the 3700 was heavier and links wider down towards the clasp; after this time, largely due to the increase in the cost of gold, the links were manufactured more narrowly and consequently were lighter.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the model, Patek Philippe launched a new Nautilus range on October 12th, 2006. In honor of the firm's 40th Anniversary, they have released the Nautilus Ref. 5711/1P in platinum and only a limited edition of 700 individually numbered watches have been produced.
